What is Ayurveda?

Ayu means Life and Veda is knowledge, or science. Ayurveda is the science of life – the knowledge of how to live optimal as a human being on this earth. It teaches us everything we need to know in order to have a harmonious and loving relationship with our own body – and ultimately with our Self.

It teaches us a language that allows us to understand all of the subtle messages our body gives us every day, through which we can recognise any imbalances before they form into disease.

It also teaches us how to trace a disease back to it’s origin, understanding what type of imbalance created it in the first place and so gives us the chance to restore that balance and provide a stable basis for the body to heal itself – because that’s what our body does: it is a self-healing organism, if we support it.

Would you like to find out your own constitution?

Ayurvedic Consultations and Counseling

During an initial consultation we will find out the root cause of the issue and divine a strategy to revers the state of imbalance your body or mind is currently in.

In further counselling session I can help you stick to these strategies until relief is experienced.

Ayurvedic Massage Treatments

The word for “oil” in Sanskrit is the same word as for “motherly love”. Ayurvedic massage works on many levels: Through meditative touch, the therapist can transfer positive energy into the clients body. Specific oils are worked deeply into the skin, so they become nourishment for the nervous system. Through specific Marma points in the body, a deep healing is stimulated.

During the first consultation I will ask you a lot of questions related to your medical history, diet, lifestyle, digestion, mental and emotional state, etc. These questions help to establish your constitution, state of mind and goals toward re-balancing.

At the end you will be given detailed diet and lifestyle advice as well as recommendations for any further action or treatment.

Ayurveda is an ancient, holistic medical system based on the science (Veda) of Life (Ayu).

The reason it has held it’s place for over 5000 years and is fast growing and gaining recognition in the mainstream health services of many countries (it is also fully supported by the WHO as a medical system) is that it is hugely effective in preventing and often even reversing disease, particularly chronic diseases and achieving a balanced, healthy state of mind. It provides a holistic lifestyle guidance covering all aspects of mental, emotional, and physical health. It is perfect for anyone wishing to create the basis for a balanced, happy and healthy life.

Ayurvedic Massage Therapy

In Sanskrit, the word for oleation- oil massage – is Snehan, which is the same word as for motherly love.

Warm, herbal oils embrace our skin like a layer of protection, love and care and through the traditional techniques of massage, the medicinal properties of the oils are worked through the skin and into the circulatory and nervous system.

Using specific techniques and the manipulation of energy centres (Marma points), you will have a truly holistic, restorative experience.

“I have known Sandra for a number of years now and have experienced several different treatments from her. The most notable one for me was the Ayurvedic Massage. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I have had many many massages over the years and can honestly say that Sandra gives the best massage ever. It is truly holistic and the benefits are felt immediately – greater enery, a huge sense of well being and a general feeling of peace within and without. Sandra gives more than any practitioner I know. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience and brings it all without bombarding the receiver. I am not sure how it works, Sandra will tell you that, but I just wanted to say to you – book immediately and find out for yourself.”

“I have been attending Sandra’s Yoga classes on and off now for a few years. I find her to be an amazing teacher: passionate, holistic and knowledgeable. So when I heard that Sandra was offering Ayurveda treatments I was thrilled and promptly made an appointment. After initial consultation Sandra determined that I was predominantly pitta and prescribed Indian herbs and a diet. Within a few days I felt heat leaving my body. On day 10 I cleansed (quite literally!!). My body felt lighter, my head clearer and I had more energy. A few weeks later on a second visit Sandra modified my diet and gave me different herbs, this time to balance Vatta. I also had a fabulous full body massage. Since starting these treatments I have experienced real change. While I have done and continue to do many things to maintain my health and wellbeing I have no doubt about the real changes that Ayurveda has brought me to and for that I am very grateful.”
